HARLINGEN- Leivi Ventura had three hits and drove in two runs while Luis Noel allowed only four hits and two runs in seven innings as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings began a nine game homestand at Harlingen Field with a 5-2 victory against the San Angelo Colts.

The triumph ends a six game losing streak by the WhiteWings (21-18) and a six game winning streak by the Colts (21-18) that began with a dramatic San Angelo 6-5 victory in 12 innings on June 28.

"It always feels good. You lose six in a row and win, it's always big," said WhiteWings manager Eddie Dennis.

The WhiteWings took a 4-1 advantage with a two out rally in the bottom of the third off Mike Hart (3-1). Leugim Barroso singled, then went to second when shortstop Landon Camp booted away Fidel Hernandez's ground ball to him.

At this point Ventura, Ruddy Yan, and Luis Sumozo all singled to take a 4-1 lead. Ventura also accounted the WhiteWings' first run when he doubled and scored on Sumozo's single in the second inning, and also was responsible for Rio Grande Valley's fifth run in the fifth inning when he doubled home Barroso.

Camp hit two home runs off Noel (3-2) to account for all of the Colts' runs.

Nick Lenzendorf collected his second save of the season by retiring San Angelo in order in the ninth.

"Our pitching hasn't been a problem all year long," Dennis said of staff. "Our pitching has been outstanding. It's just our defense. We had six losses but could have won five of them but we didn't because of fundamental errors."

These two teams will meet again tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Harlingen Field in the second game of their five game series.
