San Angelo Colts News Release

Harlingen, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings used a three-run third inning to defeat the Colts, 5-2, Wednesday night at Harlingen Field.

Tied at one entering the third, the WhiteWings put together a two-out rally. Shortstop Leugim Barroso singled and second baseman Fidel Hernandez reached on an error. Then third baseman Leivi Ventura, left fielder Ruddy Yan and centerfielder Luis Sumoza hit consecutive RBI singles, giving Rio Grande Valley a 4-1 lead.

The inning ended when Yan was tagged out trying to reach third on Sumoza's single.

Shortstop Landon Camp gave San Angelo a 1-0 lead in the second with a solo home run, and notched his second homer of the night to lead off the fifth. It marked the first time this season a Colt has hit multiple home runs in a single game.

Despite Camp's efforts, the Colts were held scoreless from the sixth inning on. WhiteWings' starter Luis Noel (3-2) worked around Camp's homers to pitch seven strong innings and earn the win. Closer Nick Lenzendorf tossed a perfect ninth to earn his second save of the year.

Colts' starter Mike Hart (3-1) gave a valiant effort, but suffered his first loss of the season. He gave up five runs, two earned, on 11 hits in seven innings of work.

San Angelo and Rio Grande Valley are now tied for third place in the United League at 21-18.

This series continues with game two Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m. The Colts' next home game is Saturday, July 14 when they host the McAllen Thunder at 7:05 p.m. It will be Glow-In-The-Dark Baseball Night, sponsored by AEP Texas.
