San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts announced Wednesday they have activated outfielder J.J. Sherrill and released catcher Josh Banda. The transactions come at the start of a season-long nine game road trip, in which San Angelo will play the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and the Edinburg Roadrunners.
Sherrill was placed on the Inactive List on June 27, following an injury he sustained two days earlier in Abilene. Sherrill has a .353 batting average with a home run and seven RBIs in 25 games. His average is the second highest on the team behind centerfielder Ronnie Gaines (.377).
In order to make room for Sherrill on the active roster, the Colts also parted ways with Banda. San Angelo's starting catcher for most of the season, Banda hit .231 with six homers and 22 RBIs in 30 games. Although he leaves as the team-leader in starts behind the plate this year, Banda had been the starting catcher since June 25.
Rookies Michael Pair and Andrew Caron are now San Angelo's two catchers.
The Colts begin a five-game series against the WhiteWings in Harlingen tonight at 6:35 p.m. The game can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 6:20 p.m.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
