WhiteWings Drop Slugfest in Conclusion of Suspended Game

Laredo - In a game that featured five two-out home runs, three by the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and two by the Laredo Broncos, the Broncos beat the WhiteWings 10-9 in the completion of a suspended game on Thursday at Veterans Field.

The WhiteWings (2-5) are now losers of five-straight.

The Broncos (3-4) loaded the bases against Luis Montano in the bottom of the second with two outs when severe thunderstorms force a suspension of play at 8:09 p.m. on Wednesday. When the game resumed at 6:57 p.m. on Thursday, Juan Peralta hit two batters, walked one and gave up an RBI-single has the Broncos took a 6-0 lead.

Salvador Paniagua got the WhiteWings (2-5) right back into the game with a two-out grand slam off of Leo Figuero to make it 6-4.

David Fowler hit his first home run of the season for the Broncos against WhiteWings reliever Andres Rosales with two outs in the fifth to make it 7-4.

The Broncos loaded the bases with one out in the sixth. Spruill hit a grounder to second, but Eric Gonzlaez dropped the ball and no outs were recorded as a run scored. Doug Thennis followed with an RBI-single to make it 9-4.

Kevin Griffin hit a three-run home run, his first of the season, against Jeff Jamnik in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 9-7. After Jamnik walked Paniagua, Michael Lucas (1-0) came into the game and allowed Joel Roa's first home run to tie the game 9-9.

After pitching a scoreless eighth, Jason Moody (0-1) retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the eighth, but on a 3-2 pitch, Thennis hit a solo home run to complete the scoring.

The Broncos struck right away against Montano. Jason Diaz drew a leadoff walk, Ben Wolgamot was hit by a pitch and Kenneth Gilbert hit an RBI-single. A wild pitch scored Wolgamot, making it 2-0.

Dimitri Camareno retired all six WhiteWings he faced after starting the game.

The WhiteWings and Broncos play the regularly scheduled game two of this four game series at about 10:09 p.m. It will be scheduled to last seven innings. Right-hander Misael DeJesus (0-0) is expected to face left-hander Brian Buchanan (0-0).
