WhiteWings Drop Series Opener to Dillas

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings lost the first game of a four-game series with the Amarillo Dillas 4-1 Tuesday at Harlingen Field.

The Dillas (23-15) got on the board against Miguel Matos (2-1) in the top of the fourth. Daryl Jones led off with a touble, and then, two batters later, TJ Warren hit an RBI-single to make it 1-0.

The WhiteWings (15-21) responded against Ralph Roberts in the bottom of the inning. Eric Gonzalez reached on a fielder's choice and Joel Roa hit an RBI-double to make it 1-1.

Former-WhiteWing Joaquin Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth, stole second and scored on a one-out single by Daryl Jones to make it 2-1 Dillas.

The Dillas hit three-straight singles against Michael Barbosa to open up the seventh and former-WhiteWing Alberto Cruz hit a two-run double to make it 4-1.

Turner Brasher (1-0) pitched three innings of one-hit ball, striking out two and walking one for the win.

Tyler Pearson pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save.

The WhiteWings and Dillas play games two and three of this four-game series as part of a doubleheader Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. at Harlingen Field. Each game is scheduled to last seven innings. Right-handers David Cross (1-4) and Marcel Prado (0-1) are expected to face left-handers Ronald Lowe (3-2) and Chris Ingoglia (1-2). Gates open at 5:05.
