Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
EDINBURG- Rio Grande Valley and McAllen were tied 4-4 in the 11th inning of their game at Edinburg Baseball Stadium Thursday night at press time.
Romulo "Alex" Ruiz hit a 3-run home run to left field, his team-leading fourth of the year, off Thunder starter Alexi Perez to give the WhiteWings an early lead, but McAllen cut the lead to 3-2 when former WhiteWing Miguel Alfonzo hit a line drive past Ruiz in right field with a man on for a triple in the bottom of the second inning and scored on Nathan Tomaszewski's sacrifice fly to centerfield.
After the WhiteWings scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh off Perez, McAllen tied the score with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings on a Geo Rosa double off Alberto Reyes and a Antoin Gray sacrifice fly to centerfield off Nick Lenzendorf, respectively.
Clint Bowker started the game for Rio Grande Valley, throwing five innings and allowing only one run.
WhiteWings centerfielder Ruddy Yan extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a first inning single.
Yunier Colon had thrown 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief at press time for McAllen, which was attempting to win their franchise record fifth consecutive game.
The two teams will meet tonight at Harlingen Field for the first game of a two game series starting at 7:05 p.m. Cole Stephens (5-3) pitches for Rio Grande Valley while lefty Alex Smith (2-2) hurls for McAllen.
