Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release
ABILENE, TX - Zach Welch is headed back to the inactive list. One week after recovering from a strained right shoulder suffered during a collision at the plate, the Dogs catcher has deactivated due to tightness in his back. The Dogs will bring back Zach Crosswhite to fill the roster vacancy.
Welch initially injured his right shoulder in a collision at home plate in a game with the McAllen Thunder at Walt Driggers Field on July 19 and was reactivated on July 27. Since rejoining the club, Welch has started two games behind the plate and gone a 1-for-8 with a walk, a pair of runs scored, and a stolen base. The Dogs are unsure how long the discomfort in his back will keep him sidelined.
Crosswhite, who made his professional debut with Abilene on June 24 and was 2-for-7 in his first stint with the Dogs. He will serve as the team's backup catcher behind Davis Page and Chris Caves.
The Prairie Dogs conclude a two-game series with the Roadrunners at Walt Driggers Field at 7:05 on Thursday night. The gates to the park open at 6:00. If you cannot make it to the game, hear the action on 106.9 KLGD beginning with the First Financial Pregame Show at 6:55.
