
Whitehead, Randazzo and Di Salvo Awarded by SPHL

HUNTERSVILLE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League on Thursday announced its 2014-2015 All-SPHL First and Second Teams as selected in a vote of league coaches, general managers and media representatives. Mississippi RiverKings forward Matt Whitehead was named one of three All-SPHL First Team forwards and Andrew Randazzo was named one of two All-SPHL First-Team defensemen. RiverKings goalie Peter Di Salvo was named the lone goalie on the All-SPHL Second Team.
Whitehead, 30, led the RiverKings with 56 points (21g, 35a) in 56 games and he finished third in the SPHL with 35 assists. He was also third with a plus-21 rating and his 56 points ranked fifth overall in the SPHL. He finished the regular season with a 13-game scoring streak, which was the longest in the SPHL this season. During the streak he eclipsed 300 career SPHL points, which ranks him in the top 10 in league history.
Randazzo, 25, was the leading scorer among SPHL defenseman with 38 points (7g, 31a) to earn his second straight All-SPHL First Team recognition. His plus-27 rating was tied with Leo Thomas for best in the SPHL and his 31 assists were most among defenseman. He was fourth on the team in scoring and his 11 power-play assists were tied with Whitehead for the team lead.
Di Salvo, 24, is in his first season with the RiverKings. He played 30 games during the regular season and was 19-8-0 with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. He finished tied for second in the SPHL in goals-against average and was third in wins. The Oakville, Ontario native posted two shutouts, the first two of his professional career.

The RiverKings will host Game 2 of the First Round of the President's Cup Playoffs against the Pensacola Ice Flyers Friday, April 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the Landers Center. Playoff tickets start at $6 at the Landers Center Box Office or at riverkings.com/ticketmaster. Fans are encouraged to wear green for a "Green Out" and those who do will save $2 on select tickets at the Box Office.
