
Whitecaps FC Transfer Defender Derek Cornelius to Swedish Side Malmö FF

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the club has transferred defender Derek Cornelius to Swedish side Malmö FF.
"This agreement made sense for all parties involved and came together fairly quickly after Derek informed us, he wanted to stay in Europe," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. "We are thankful to Derek for his service to the club and wish him all the best for the future."
Cornelius, 25, joined the 'Caps in January 2019 via transfer from Serbian club FK Javor Ivanjica and went on to make 37 appearances for the club across all competitions. In July 2021, the native of Ajax, Ontario, joined Greek side Panetolikos FC on loan through 2022, where he made 47 appearances.
Founded in 1910, Malmö FF will kick off the 2023 Allsvenskan season in April.
