Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Let's bring the magic of the cup back to BC!
Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday that one dollar from every ticket to the Canadian Championship Final will be put towards the next national tournament hosting opportunities for League1 BC men's and women's teams. The funds will be split evenly towards the next men's team to host in the Canadian Championship, and the League1 Canada Women's Inter-Provincial Championship hosted in British Columbia in 2023.
"The magic of cup competitions is a big part of what makes our sport so special," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer. "We take a big responsibility in growing the game in our community, and we know that it can be a financial burden for League1 BC clubs to host these big cup matches. We all saw the incredible experience that TSS Rovers had hosting at Swangard Stadium this year. We want to see more of these moments in our province and we could not be more proud to provide this support to help make this a reality."
Last year, 24,307 fans packed BC Place to watch the 'Caps capture the Voyageurs Cup against Toronto FC. This year, the 'Caps will host CF Montreal in the Canadian Championship final on Wednesday, June 7 at BC Place.
"The Canadian Championships and the Inter-Provincial Championships provide an unique opportunity for BC talent to perform at the national stage," said Gabriel Assis, chair League1 BC steering group and BC Soccer director of soccer operations. "We invite all fans to support the Vancouver Whitecaps on keeping the Voyageurs Cup in BC! This contribution will significantly support League1 BC on our continued pursuit of growing and developing our level of the game in our province."
League1 BC teams will also have the opportunity to secure five dollars per ticket for their clubs through their own unique group links.
