Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC are in full support of Doctors of BC, as well as the federal, provincial, and municipal governments in urgently asking that all members of the public stay at home to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
"We are united with our medical professionals and government in conveying this important message to the public. British Columbia is coming to a tipping point, and every individual needs to take responsibility and do their part," noted Dr. Jim Bovard, Whitecaps FC chief medical officer. "Please remain at home unless it is absolutely necessary to meet an essential need, and in that case please take the utmost caution in using physical distancing."
Whitecaps FC are encouraging all supporters, partners, media, staff, and the public to take to social media to spread the message to #StayHome. All club staff have been working remotely from home since March 16, while the players' last on-field session was March 11 and have implemented group workouts via video conference from their own home.
"We applaud the efforts of local health professionals and our government to fight the spread of COVID-19," added Mark Pannes, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer. "We understand the very serious nature of this situation, and the state of emergency that we are in. We know that what we do today will greatly impact the health of our fellow community members. It is absolutely our responsibility to not only stay at home ourselves, but to as well as promote this message and ensure that others are doing the same."
