Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - Dwayne White continued his hot hitting with four singles and two RBIS, as the Shreveport-Bossier Captains erased an early 1-0 deficit with a run in the third and four in the fourth to cruise to a 7-2 win over the Fort Worth Cats in front of 1,042 fans on Monday night at Fair Grounds Field.
White, who has 17 hits in his last 41 at-bats (.415) and 11 in his last 22, picked up his second four-hit game of the year, extending a 2-1 Captains lead with a two-run single in the fourth. After Jose Salzar gave the Captains (18-24) the advantage with an RBI single, Jonathan Reynoso walked and White singled up the middle to bring home the two runs. The Captains big inning against Ryan Trytten (0-1) went one more batter, as Christopher Garcia hit a broken bat bloop single to left-center, with Reynoso getting a great read on the ball to score from second with one out.
That was the end of the night for Trytten, who went 3 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and five runs, on four walks and four strikeouts. The 5-1 lead was plenty for lefty Logan Williamson (4-2), who won his third straight start. Williamson went
6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, with five walks and six strikeouts. He has now gone at least six innings in all seven of his starts.
However, Fort Worth (29-13) scored the first run of the game in the second. Patrick O'Sullivan singled to right-center to extend his American Association-record hitting streak to 25 games, and moved to second on a walk to Michael Bell. Kelley Gulledge followed with a double down the third-base line to make it 1-0 Cats. The lefty then walked Isa Garcia to load the bases with one out, but struck out Aljay Davis swinging and induced a double-play ball to second from Brian Fryer to get out of further trouble.
After that, Williamson allowed only three singles and a walk until the seventh, when two straight errors by Garcia at third and a one-out walk loaded the bases. Matt Petty came on for Williamson, and Ryan Patterson hit the first pitch to left for a sacrifice fly and a 5-2 deficit, but Petty got John Allen to ground out to third and end the inning.
The Captains got that run and another back in the bottom of the inning, when Lee appeared to tire, hitting Jose Torres to start the inning, and giving up singles to Kevin Griffin and B.J. Wheeler to make it 6-2. Tyler Pearson came on and got a potential double-play grounder from Josh Collazo, but the shortstop Cameron Blair threw wildly to first, allowing Griffin to score and provide the final margin of victory.
Petty pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and Justin Dowdy worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to get the Captains their third win in four games against the first-half champions this season.
Notes: Collazo got his first pro hit in the game, a single to right in the fourth...All nine Captains hitters had at least one hit...Andres Rodriguez, who hit an RBI double in the third to tie the game, and Jose Torres joined White with multi-hit games, with two hits each...Williamson has not allowed more than three earned runs or four total runs in any of his starts this season.
