Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - Fresh off their grueling 7-game western road trip through British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, the Brandon Wheat Kings have reassigned one player and lost another as they begin preparations for this week's mini 2-game Western Hockey League home stand at the Keystone Centre.
The WHL club has announced that forward Jon Lawrance, who split last season between Dauphin and OCN of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League has been assigned to the Nipawin Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League while 17-year old center Tyler Dittmer has left the Wheat Kings on his own accord and is expected to rejoin Brandon's AAA midget club.
A former third round draft choice of the Red Deer Rebels (53rd overall) in the 2002 WHL Bantam draft, Dittmer was acquired by the Wheat Kings in a draft day deal last April. The 5'10" 180 lb. Dittmer led the Manitoba Midget League in scoring last season with 37 goals and 83 points and led Brandon to the National Championship in Kenora, Ontario.
In fifteen games with the Wheat Kings this season, the Brandon product had four assists and four minutes in penalties.
Lawrance meanwhile saw limited duty in Brandon this season, playing in just three games. In a related move, 16-year old prospect Morgan MacLean has joined the Medicine Hat AAA midget Tigers. MacLean had been reassigned before the club's recent west coast road trip.
Today's moves leaves the Wheat Kings with twenty-two players on it's active roster - two goalkeepers, seven defencemen and thirteen forwards.
The second place Wheat Kings will return to the friendly confines of the Keystone Centre this week when they play host to the defending Western Conference Champion Everett Silvertips on Thursday afternoon - Remembrance Day - and the Tri-City Americans on Friday.
Tickets to both games are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or on line at ticketmaster.ca.
