Wheaties, Team WHL To Meet Russians

Victoria, B.C. -- Team Canada Head Coach Willie Desjardins of the Medicine Hat Tigers will have the boys from Team WHL ready to go against Team Russia tonight in Victoria and Thursday night in Kelowna.

The WHL All Stars will be led by World Junior gold medalists Jordan Eberle and Colten Teubert of the Regina Pats as well as 2009 NHL first round picks Brayden Schenn (Los Angeles) and Scott Glennie (Dallas) of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Jared Cowen of the Spokane Chiefs, and Carter Ashton of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Schenn and Glennie will be two of three Wheat Kings participating in Wednesday's game. Joining them will be Gilbert Plains Manitoba product and second round draft choice of the NHL's Florida Panthers - Colby Robak.

Also on the team is WHL leading scorer Brandon Kozun of the Calgary Hitmen and last year's CHL Rookie of the Year Brett Connolly who is a top prospect for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2009 SUBWAY© Super Series is an integral part of the evaluation process for Team Canada's National Junior team final selection camp for the evalution camp for the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship where Canada will be competing for a record sixth straight gold metal.

Last season 21 CHL players from this event won gold for Team Canada!

Following tonight's game, Schenn, Glennie and Robak will return to Brandon and will be in the lineup this weekend when the Wheat Kings take on Swift Current in a weekend home and home series, beginning Friday night at Westman Place.
