November 22, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan -- The Brandon Wheat Kings ran their winning streak to three games Saturday night with a come from behind 5-4 Overtime Shootout victory over the Warriors in Moose Jaw.
The win, Brandon's second in as many nights, improved the Wheat Kings' record to 16-10-0-2, good for 34 points and second place in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division.
Saturday's game also marked the end of a busy week for the Wheat Kings, who played four games in 5 nights and managed to post victories in three of them including an impressive 5-2 win over the Central Division leading Calgary Hitmen on Friday.
Trailing 4-3 in the final minute of Saturday's game in Moose Jaw, Matt Calvert fired home a loose puck with 33 seconds remaining in regulation time and setting the stage for Brandon's first Shootout win of the year. Jacob DeSerres, who made 38 saves for the win, turned aside four of Moose Jaw's five shooters while Scott Glennie and Jay Fehr made good on their attempts.
Glennie and Calvert both had a goal and an assist in the win while Finnish right-winger Toni Rajala scored twice for the second straight night, giving him 12 goals on the season.
Also scoring for the Wheat Kings in Friday night's win were Calvert, Alexander Urbom and Paul Van de Velde.
The Wheat Kings don't see action again until Friday night when the Swift Current Broncos pay a visit to Westman Place. Tickets to that game are available at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
Three members of the Wheat Kings will be off to B.C. this week as the Subway Super Series will feature Team WHL up against a Russian Junior Select squad. Brayden Schenn, Scott Glennie and Colby Robak will be hoping to make a lasting impression as Hockey Canada officials continue to look at who to invite to next month's National Junior Selection Camp.
