Medicine Hat, AB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings closed out their 4-game Alberta road trip with a win on Saturday night.

The Wheat Kings, who finished 2-2-0 during the western trip, built up a three goal lead and then hung on to beat the Tigers 4-3 in Medicine Hat.

Leading 4-1 late in the game, the Tigers - who play in Brandon this Friday night - scored a pair of goals to close to within one and nearly evened the score, only to see Brandon netminder Jiri Patera make a late glove save in the dying seconds to seal the deal.

Duncan Pierce, Vinny Iorio, Ben McCartney and Luksa Burzan scored goals for the Wheat Kings, who improved to 27-19-2-2 on the season, while Bryan Lockner, Daniel Baker and Brett Kemp replied for the Tigers.

Patera, who made 37 saves to record his fifth shutout of the season and sixth of his career on Friday night in Calgary, turned aside 31 shots for the Wheat Kings, who finished the game with one goal on four powerplay chances.

"I thought it was a very emotional, fast, physical game," Brandon coach Dave Lowry told the Brandon Sun following the game.

With the win, the Wheat Kings moved to within a point of second place Winnipeg in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division as The ICE fell 4-1 in Edmonton. Brandon also kept pace with the front running Prince Albert Raiders, who beat Swift Current 4-1. The victory also pushed Brandon four points up on the fourth place Saskatoon Blades.

The Wheat Kings won't play again until Friday night when they host their annual RE/MAX WHL Suits up for Organ Donation game at Westoba Place, in support of the Kidney Foundation. They'll be wearing special Hockey Night in Canada theme jerseys on Friday and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will have a chance to win a HNIC bobblehead.

Tickets to the game go back on sale Monday morning at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
