Winnipeg Ice News Release
The Winnipeg ICE took on the Brandon Wheat Kings in an East Division showdown, the final game before the Christmas break.
It was an entertaining first period as the Wheat Kings opened the scoring through Ben McCartney's 14th goal of the season. Marcus Sekundiak would give the Wheat Kings a 2-0 lead but it would not last long as the ICE would cut the deficit 15 seconds later when Connor McClennon scored his 14th of the season.
The second period was scoreless with both teams having 2 power play opportunities in the frame. Brandon's Jiri Patera was the busier of the two goaltenders as the ICE out shot the Wheat Kings by a tally of 25-13 after two periods.
The ICE would even things up in the third period as Connor McClennon's shot had to go to video review to determine that the puck had fully crossed the line. Owen Pederson would put the ICE up 3-2 on the power play halfway through the third with Peyton Krebs getting his 3rd assist of the game. After a high sticking penalty to the ICE, the Wheat Kings would even things up at 3 on the power play with Cole Reinhardt scoring for Brandon. With 1:49 left in the game, Braden Schneider would score the game winning goal for Brandon, ending the ICE's 8 game home winning streak.
