Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings returned to the friendly confines of Westman Place Friday night, scoring a 5-3 victory over the Eastern Division leading Swift Current Broncos and making a big winner of Jason Earl in the process.

After trading four goals in the opening period, the Wheat Kings led 4-3 after forty minutes when Daniel Bartek scored what proved to be the winner - his team leading third game winning goal of the season - with 22 seconds remaining in the second period.

Brandon rounded out the scoring with the only goal of the final period when Andrew Clark beat Swift Current's Travis Yonkman at the 23 second mark. Not only did it provide the defending Eastern Division champions with a third period insurance goal, it made a winner of Jason Earl in the Keg Steakhouse and Bar $5,000 Goal Contest.

With the win, Brandon's third straight, the Wheat Kings pulled to within three points of both Swift Current and Regina atop the Eastern Division and to within one point of third place Moose Jaw heading into Saturday night's clash at Westman Place.

The Wheat Kings, who also got goals from Scott Glennie, Nathan Green and Tyler Dittmer, with his team leading 13th of the season, improved their record to 10-6-0-1 (5-4-0 on home ice), good for 21 points.

A Season Ticket holder, Earl is the first ever winner in the Keg Steakhouse and Bar $5,000 Goal Contest. During each home game for the past two seasons, visitors to The Keg in Brandon have had a chance to enter to win a pair of tickets to an upcoming game and qualify to win $5,000 - if the Wheat Kings can score in the opening 30 seconds of the third period.

Brandon's Keg Steakhouse and Bar is owned and operated by local businessman Dave Schaworski and is one of 90 locations across North America. Established in 1971 in North Vancouver, The Keg offers great food, superior service and a comfortable atmosphere and is located at 1836 Brandon Avenue.

Tickets to Saturday's game between the Wheat Kings and Warriors are on sale at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
