Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB - The Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba (IBAM) partnered with the Brandon Wheat Kings to deliver an unforgettable experience to minor hockey league players from the Westman area.
Six western Manitoba minor hockey teams joined the Brandon Wheat Kings roster on the ice for a fun, interactive event that included skills, hockey drills, skating, photos opportunities, as well as a post event dinner with the players in the MNP Hall.
Insurance brokers from the Brandon area were encouraged to nominate local minor hockey teams aged 12 and under for the first ever event. The dinner, private ice time and an autograph session with the Wheat Kings, was a day to remember for these young players.
"Giving back to the community in Brandon and Westman has always been a priority for local insurance brokers. We are excited to host such a fun event that involves minor hockey from multiple communities in and around Brandon," said Grant Wainikka, CEO of IBAM.
Participating Wheat Kings include five-year captain Connor Gutenberg, who recently became only the tenth player in franchise history to play 300 WHL games in a Brandon sweater, drafted players Jiri Patera, Marcus Kallionkieli and Luka Burzan as well as veterans Ben McCartney, Ridly Greig and Braden Schneider. Schneider, Greig and McCartney are expected to hear their names called at this June's NHL Draft.
Wednesday night's camp was under the direction of Wheat King assistant coaches Don MacGillivray and Mark Derlago.
The six participating teams were the ATOMc Green Raiders, the Brandon Canucks, the Guild Insurance Broker Penguins, the Novice Brandon Sharks, the Peewee B Female Brandon Wheat Kings and the River Jets Atom Team.
Participating brokerages included Andrew Agencies Ltd., Guild/HMS Insurance Brokers, Morrison Agencies Ltd., Prairie View Insurance Brokers and Way-Mor Agencies Ltd.
In other Wheat King news, Brandon hosts Edmonton and Prince Albert this Friday and Saturday nights.
Friday night will feature a special Salute to the Grey Cup Champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Tickets to both weekend home games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
