Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - It's been a busy week for the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, both on and off the ice.
In addition to visits to Sioux Valley, Rossburn and Earl Oxford School for a TD Read to Succeed class, Hockey Manitoba Minor Hockey Caravan and a game against Westman Special Olympics, the Wheat Kings continue to prepare for what should be an exciting weekend of hockey at Westoba Place.
Brandon will be hoping to extend their season high winning streak this weekend when they host the Victoria Royals and Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday and Saturday nights respectively.
The Wheat Kings, who are coming off back to back wins last weekend over Calgary and Moose Jaw, are currently riding a 9-game winning streak and have moved to within four points of the Eastern Division leading Winnipeg Ice.
Winners of twelve of 14 games since December 1st, the Wheat Kings enter the weekend with an impressive record of 24-17-1-2.
Friday's game will mark the first time that Brandon coach Dave Lowry has met his former club.
A 2-time winner of the WHL Coach of the Year Award, Lowry spent five seasons with the Royals, compiling an overall record of 209-124-14-13. His best season in Victoria came in 2015-16 when the Royals finished with a 50-16-3-3 record.
The Royals were one of the clubs to bolster their lineup at the trade deadline, acquiring all star Brayden Tracey from the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Since joining Victoria, Tracey has scored two goals and 7 points in six games and has 45 points, including seventeen goals in 34 games overall.
Victoria is currently sitting in second place in the B.C. Division with a record of 25-15-3-0.
As for Saturday night, the Hurricanes come to town looking to improve their third place standing in the Central Division. Entering tonight's game in Moose Jaw, Lethbridge is 26-11-2-5 and are led by National Junior Team members Dylan Cozens and Calen Addison.
This Friday's game will feature a "Salute to Westman 4-H", presented by Enns Brothers while Saturday is another Kids Family Day, with special prices on children's tickets, concessions and will include a pre-game party, courtesy of Jumparoo Inflatables.
Those fans purchasing $5 children's tickets for Saturday's game will receive a "free" McDonalds Happy Meal.
Tickets to both weekend games, which will be Brandon's final two home games of January, are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com
Entering the weekend, Brandon is 7-0-0-0 in 2020.
