Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings celebrated Thanksgiving Monday with a 4-1 victory over the Oil Kings at Rexall Place in Edmonton.

Brayden Schenn scored his first goal of the season and set up another for the Wheat Kings, who snapped a 3-game losing streak to improve their record to 5-4-0-1 on the season. The victory also gave Brandon a split in their brief 2-game Alberta road trip, after dropping a heartbreaking 5-4 decision in Red Deer on Sunday.

Matt Calvert, Jay Fehr and 17-year old rookie Michael Ferland, with his first ever Western Hockey League goal, also scored for the Wheat Kings, who led 1-0 and 2-0 at the period breaks. Rookie defencemen Ryley Miller added two assists for the winners.

Tomas Vincour replied for the Oil Kings, who were outshot 35-32.

Sherwood Park, Alberta product Andrew Hayes, making his second start in as many days, made 31 saves to register the win.

The Wheat Kings will now return home where they will host Lethbridge and Kamloops this Friday and Saturday nights at Westman Place.

Tickets for both games go back on sale first thing Tuesday morning at the Keystone Centre box office, located in the Pioneer Lounge. Fans can also order tickets online at ticketmaster.ca or by calling 726-3555.

And speaking of tickets, the Wheat Kings and the Local Host Organizing Committee want to remind 2009-10 Season Ticket holders that the deadline to purchase Memorial Cup ticket packages is fast approaching.

The deadline is this Thursday, October 15th. To order, Season Ticket holders are encouraged to contact the Wheat Kings' office at 726-3535.
