
Moose Jaw Warriors Jason Bast named Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Jason Bast of the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Bast picked up 12 points, scoring seven goals and five assists to go with a +7 rating, in four games over the past week, helping the Warriors post a 3-1 record and score 26 goals in that span.
On Wednesday, October 7th, the Warriors hosted Trans-Canada rivals the Regina Pats' at Moose Jaw's Civic Centre; Bast netted two goals as the Warriors went on to defeat the Pats 9-6. On Friday, October 9th, in Swift Current, Bast scored one goal and added three assists in a losing effort as the Broncos downed the Warriors 7-6; he was also named the games 2nd Star. The next evening, Saturday, October 10th, back at the Civic Centre in Moose Jaw, Bast scored the second hat-trick of his career and season, while adding an assist as the Warriors doubled up the top-ranked Calgary Hitmen 6-3; he was also named the games 1st Star. On Sunday, October 11th the Kootenay Ice were in Moose Jaw to face the Warriors, Bast scored the game winning goal and picked up one assist as the Warriors defeating the Ice 4-2 and was again named the games 1st Star.
Bast's 12 points over the last four games has him sitting 1st among all WHL scorers with 19 points (13 goals, 6 assists) in 11 games played; his 13 markers is also tops among all WHL goal scorers. The Warriors currently hold top spot in the highly competitive WHL East Division with a 7-4-0-0 record for 14 points, and share first place in the WHL Eastern Conference with the Calgary Hitmen.
Bast, a 20-year-old centerman from White City, Saskatchewan, is in his fifth full season with the Moose Jaw Warriors. Throughout his WHL career Bast has appeared in 282 regular season games, scoring 94 goals and 115 assists for 209 career WHL points thus far.
The WHL has also nominated Justin Leclerc of the Kamloops Blazers for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Leclerc posted a 2-0-0-0 record this past week, stopping 41 of 43 shots faced for a 1.140 goals-against average and 0.953 save percentage. Leclerc, a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native, has appeared in six games this season posting a 5-0-1-0 record and 2.37 GAA, good enough for sixth spot among all WHL goaltenders.
