Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Dauphin, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings are headed to the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

The Wheat Kings, who finished with a 40-27-3-2 record during the regular season, punched their ticket Sunday night to the WHL's second round of post season play with a dramatic 4-3 come from behind overtime victory over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers at Dauphin's Credit Union Place.

Brandon won the best of seven series four games to two and will now meet the Lethbridge Hurricanes with the first two games scheduled to be played in Alberta this coming weekend.

The stories of this game were veteran Linden McCorrister and netminder Dylan Myskiw.

While Myskiw turned aside 52 shots, including 24 in the third period when the Tigers grabbed a 3-2 lead and pressed for the insurance marker, McCorrister scored two of the biggest goals of his WHL career.

First, he scored the equalizer with just under nine minutes to play in regulation time and then got the game winner at the 10:37 mark of overtime when he tipped home a Braden Schneider shot past Tigers' netminder Jordan Hollett.

"I thought our guys did a good job throughout the course of the game," Head Coach David Anning told Branden Crowe during CKLQ's post game show. "We responded well down 2-0 and found a way to claw back into it in the 2nd period."

With the score tied at two through forty minutes, Mark Rassell - who was playing the final game of his WHL career - scored at the :34 second mark to put the Tigers up by one and setting the stage for McCorrister's heroics.

"I thought we did a real good job in overtime, I thought our guys were organized, we did a good job controlling the pace and tempo and we got everyone on the ice and everyone contributed. It was a real emotional win and it was good for our guys to get the job done."

Stelio Mattheos and Evan Weinger scored the other goals for the Wheat Kings, who rallied after losing the first two games of the series. After winning back to back games in Dauphin last week, Brandon downed the Tigers 5-2 in Medicine Hat on Friday.
