Daytona Tortugas News Release
Saturday (tomorrow) is Coca-Cola's Twins Night Doubleheader. All sets of twins will receive free general admission. Gates open at 5:00 pm, game one of the DH begins at 5:45pm. After a 30 minute break we'll have game two. Once game two begins, all Coca-Cola products are two-for-one for the remainder of the game.
Sunday is the first off day of the 2003 season. The Cubs will be back at The Jack on Monday, May 5th for Cinco de Mayo $10 Night. During our last $10 Night I made a personal promise of correcting the situation that resulted in lengthy concession lines. Since that night the Daytona Cubs have resumed operational control of the ballpark concessions. Assistant General Manager Michael Swope has a great plan to make the concessions not only more affordable, but move lines more quickly. We promised changes, you'll get changes.
Here's the skinny for Monday night...$10 gets you in the gate and you can sit wherever you want (except where there is a name plaque on a seat for a season ticket holder). Once in the gate, the following food items are free:
Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Pizza, Peanuts, Popcorn, and Coca-Cola products. Additionally, all 12 ounce beers are only $1.
ONCE IN LINE YOU CAN RECEIVE TWO OF THREE SEPARATE ITEMS. This policy prevents the person in front of you from grabbing 14 hot dogs, six popcorns, etc. Once you're out of line you are free to get back in line and receive more free food and drinks, once again, two of three separate items. Play fair and everybody gets full.
If you want hamburgers and peanuts, head down to the Lynch Imports Picnic Patio. If you want pizza, hot dogs, and popcorn, head to the main concession stand. Vendors will be distributing popcorn and hot dogs in the stands as well as at the gate when you enter. Although the ballpark is small and handling large crowds proves to be a challenge some nights, we're prepared to get the food out into the stands so you don't have to wait for it in line. We want you to enjoy the game and not the back of somebody's head while you're waiting for a drink. I'll go on record and promise you this...we will do everything in our power to minimize lines by proactive vending/distribution of food/drinks around the ballpark. Ultimately, some lines will form, there's nothing to prevent that at The Jack, but we'll keep them as short as possible.
Tuesday is Education Day Part II, sponsored by DAYTONA USA. Look for an appearance by the World Famous Monkey Boy. You've gotta see this goof to believe it! If you like a fun-filled version of the Planet of the Apes, this game's one you don't want to miss. Gates open at 9:00 am, game time is 10:45 am. Thanks to our friends at DAYTONA USA, we've had a lot of good comments from teachers and educator about having two Education Days this season with 50% capacity on both days. Kids and fans aren't stepping on top of each other and if you can cut out of work and take in this game, it's more fun than ever before because of a 1/2 full ballpark instead of one bursting at the seams. DAYTONA USA has again sponsored our Education Program (Baseball Is Education). DAYTONA USA is actively involved with the programs dealing with kids; they also are the sponsor of our inaugural Kids Club. Schools were provided educational materials during the school year that uses baseball as an educational tool. The program ends with Education Days where students receive a glossy folder with educational material and they interact with the game. Kids also interview players and coaches and write press releases. Tuesday is also a Twizzlers'/Seniors Tuesday. Present a Twizzlers proof of purchase and receive two tickets for Tuesday's game for the price of one. Seniors 55 and older receive two tickets for the price of one as well.
Ozzy Update: Last week Ozzy passed away at the Birds of Prey Sanctuary in Maitland. We have turned in over $4300 thus far to the Animal Clinic of Edgewater. Dr Neves from the clinic has asked us to let each of you know that 100% of these funds will be distributed throughout the area to assist those organizations that provide free medical care for wild animals. The Animal Clinic of Edgewater is keeping none of the funds for their own use.
In the "zero-point-zero, all courses incomplete, Mr Blutarsky" category...Daytona Cubs Pitcher Travis Anderson still leads the League with a 0.00 ERA.
Got the inside track on who from the 2003 Cubbies is gonna be on the Eastern Division's lineup for the 2003 FSL All-Star Game? Send us your picks, thoughts, and reasoning and we'll publish the best in upcoming newsletters.
