Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Plymouth, MI- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors dropped their second game of the road trip and third in a row losing 6-2 to the Plymouth Whalers tonight at the Compuware Arena. The loss drops Mississauga to 37-15-4-2 on the season.

After a poor performance last night in Windsor, the Majors came out much stronger in tonight's contest with Plymouth. In the previous meeting between the clubs, the Whalers left Mississauga with a 5-1 win on January 22nd, where Tyler Seguin had four points. Seguin duplicated that performance tonight. Midway through the first with the score deadlocked at 0-0 the Majors went on a five-on-three advantage but failed to score. Seguin would strike first for Plymouth when his shot off JP Anderson's shoulder just got past the Majors goaltender to make it 1-0. Robbie Czarnik's centering pass was blasted at net, Anderson got a piece but took a funny bounce off the goaltender and went in. A.J. Jenks put the Whalers ahead by two just over two minutes later on the power play. Anderson was being screened by Joey Gaynor and didn't see the blast from Jenks that beat him low to make it 2-0.

Rob Flick appeared to get the Majors fired up with a spirited encounter with Jamie Devane of Plymouth. The two heavyweights exchanged blows in a fairly even contest. As a result the Majors headed to the power play. Seconds in a delay of game penalty was called on Plymouth, giving Mississauga another five-on-three advantage. This time the Majors converted with Casey Cizikas scoring his 24th goal of the campaign, cutting the score to 2-1. Blake Parlett's shot hit off of Gaynor and Cizikas got a piece of it to put it past Matt Hackett at 3:02 of the second. Tyler Seguin would strike again as he broke away on Anderson and beat the goaltender and jammed the puck past him to make it 3-1. The goal would be subject to a lengthy booth review. From the replay, Anderson's glove past the goal line however there was no sight of the puck. The play was upheld and Plymouth was awarded the goal making it 3-1. Phil McRae increased the lead by three at 13:02 of the second. After a perfect backhanded pass from Garrett Meurs, McRae's shot beat Anderson, giving Plymouth a 4-1 lead after two.

Tyler Seguin completed his hat-trick just over six minutes into the third period after his shot appeared to deflect off of a Major and past Anderson, making it 5-1. 29 seconds later James Livingston made it 6-1 for Plymouth. The Majors grabbed a power play marker from David Corrente at 10:52 of the third cutting the lead to 6-2. However it was too little too late as the Majors dropped another tough road loss, 6-2. Matt Hackett made 41 saves and earned the victory for Plymouth. JP Anderson stopped 21 shots and takes the loss for Mississauga. The Majors will have the opportunity to grab a win on the road trip as they will head to Saginaw tomorrow night to face the Spirit at 7:11 p.m.
