Westchester Knicks News Release

White Plains, NY - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, have joined forces with Chase and the Village of Irvington to refurbish and repaint the Bobby Speisman Basketball Court at Scenic Hudson Park located in Irvington, NY.

The basketball court was originally made possible by the Irvington community, Village of Irvington, and friends in memory of Bobby Speisman, the father of three daughters, who was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77 which was flown into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

"Being the home of the Bobby Speisman Basketball Court is a tremendous honor for the Village of Irvington," said Joseph D. Archino, Superintendent of Recreation and Parks for the Village of Irvington, N.Y. "Bobby Speisman was a special man. He was a loyal friend, an amazing family man, and respected resident. The new and improved court will provide endless hours of opportunity to experience the courts, our beautiful park, and the majestic Hudson River. Bobby's friends and family, and our community, will never forget him."

Scenic Hudson was instrumental in rehabilitating the waterfront industrial site and transforming it into a park, co-owned with the Village of Irvington, that offers magnificent views of the Hudson River, encompassing the Manhattan skyline, Palisades, and Tappan Zee Bridge.

The refurbishment project includes resurfacing the existing court, repairing existing cracks, and repainting the court with Westchester Knicks orange and blue. Additionally, damaged pole pads will be replaced on all six basketball units. The project adds to an increasing list of community initiatives made possible by Chase, the Marquee Partner of Madison Square Garden and the Westchester Knicks. Through the partnership, Chase and the Westchester Knicks focus on growing the game of basketball in the Westchester community.

"In all my years of being involved in sports, I never met anyone who loved basketball as much as Bobby did," said Joel Fisher, Executive Vice President of Marquee Events and Operations for Madison Square Garden and long-time resident of the Village of Irvington. "He was a great friend, and I know he's looking down on us and smiling. It's a thrill and an honor to know that every time someone steps on the court, it's because of Bobby Speisman."

The project will culminate with a grand re-opening on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 12:00 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony, featuring speakers representing the Village of Irvington, the Westchester Knicks, and the family of Bobby Speisman, followed by a free youth clinic at 12:30 p.m. as part of the Westchester Knicks' Jr. Dub Knicks youth initiative. Fans are invited to participate in an open court beginning at 1:30 p.m., with games and giveaways with Knicks Legends and Alumni.
