WESTCHESTER, March 24, 2015 -The Westchester Knicks (10-35), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, fell at home tonight to the Canton Charge (27-18), the Cleveland Cavaliers' affiliate.
Westchester took off on an 8-0 run to start the game but Canton recovered quickly with a 9-0 run of their own as the first quarter continued to see back-and-forth action between the two teams. The Knicks went the entire quarter without committing a turnover but the Charge won the rebound game, notching 15 to the Knicks' nine. Canton ended the quarter with a slight lead over Westchester.
The Charge extended the lead in the second and held on for the remainder of the first half. Neither team found much success from beyond the arc, but Canton outshot the Knicks in the paint 30 to 26 and capitalized on more second chance points, giving way to a 52-39 lead for the Charge at the half.
Westchester picked up the pace in the third, improving their shooting percentage to 61 percent and grabbing twice as many rebounds over the Charge. But despite 11 points from Knicks forward Darnell Jackson in the third, Canton held on to the lead with a push from forward James Singleton, who rivaled Jackson with 14 points in the quarter.
The Charge forged ahead in the final quarter, taking as much as a 20 point lead over the Knicks. With only eight players suited up for Westchester and despite a valiant effort, the team ran out of steam as Canton went on to seal the deal, winning the game 109-91. Darnell Jackson led the Knicks with a team-high 28 points, adding 10 rebounds for the double-double. Thanasis Antetokounmpo joined Jackson in the double-double category finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds, also putting up two blocks. Ben Strong had 16 points and two blocks as well, and also contributed six rebounds and three assists.
James Singleton led all scorers with 29 points, hitting a double-double with an added 11 rebounds and two blocks. Brandon Paul supplied 21 points, finishing with five rebounds and three assists. Arinze Onuaku also ended with a double-double, posting 11 points and as many rebounds.
The Westchester Knicks travel to face the Maine Red Claws, the Boston Celtics' affiliate on Friday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on MSG + and YouTube.
