
West Virginia Drop Trip Opener 14-5

Lexington, KY- The West Virginia Power lost 14-5 to the Lexington Legends on Thursday. The Legends used two big innings as a catalyst to win their home opener, scoring four in the second and six in the fourth.
The Power opened the scoring in the top of the first without a base hit. Logan Ratledge walked to lead off the game and stole second. He then stole third and scored on an errant throw for a 1-0 West Virginia lead. The Legends answered quickly with a run on two hits in the bottom of the first.
Lexington scored four runs against West Virginia Oddy Nunez in a nine-batter bottom of the second, but the Power rallied right back in the third. Trailing 5-1, Ratledge hit his second home run of the season; a two-run shot with Sandy Santos on base. Ty Moore followed with a double to left-center and scored on a throwing error to bring West Virginia within one.
The Legends plated six in the fourth to break the game wide open. Chris DeVito singled in a pair against Dylan Prohoroff and Angelo Castellano hit a three-run home run off reliever Jordan Jess to help build Lexington's lead to eight runs at 12-4.
After Santos hit his first home run in the top of the seventh, the Legends added two more to close the scoring at 14-5.
Nunez (0-2) took the loss, surrendering six runs, two earned, on nine hits over three innings. Gerson Garabito (1-0) notched with win with five innings of work. Lexington outhit the Power 16 to seven. Santos led the Power with three hits while seven different Lexington players had at least two hits in the game and Castellano drove in a game-high four runs.
The Power and Legends continue this four-game series on Friday. Luis Escobar takes the mound for West Virginia and will be opposed by Lexington's Travis Eckert. First pitch is slated for 7:05 P.M.
