... but the RockHounds would have provided some great radio of their own Wednesday. The 'Hounds overcame an 8-3 deficit, with Jaycob Brugman's solo home run in the top of the ninth proving to be the game-winner, in a 10-9 victory over the RoughRiders in Frisco.
The RoughRiders, with two Texas Rangers in the lineup (Matt Harrison was the starting pitcher and Josh Hamilton the designated hitter, both on rehab assignments), erased an early RockHounds 3-1 lead with a six-run third inning Patrick Cantwell's grand slam home run capped the scoring in the third, and the Riders added a solo shot from Drew Robinson in the fifth to build a five-run lead (8-3).
The 'Hounds then rallied back, sending a combined 17 batters to the plate in the seventh and eighth innings. Chad Oberacker scored twice and drove in a run in that span and Chad Pinder had a pair of RBI, the second tying the game at 9-9 and extending his hit streak to 13 games.
In the ninth, Brugman sent a high drive to right-center off All-Star reliever Jesus Pirela. The ball narrowly cleared the glove of Jake Skole at the wall, giving the 'Hounds the 10-9 lead. Tucker Healy, who pitched two perfect innings, then slammed the door in the last of the ninth.
The RockHounds
... are 1-1 in the second half and back to .500 overall (36-36) ... snapped a three-game slide ... are 4-4 on their (12-game) road trip (3-1 at San Antonio and 1-3 at Frisco) ... are 10-6 versus Frisco, with home field weighing heavily in the season series (the 'Hounds are 7-1 at Security Bank Ballpark and 3-5 at Dr Pepper Ballpark against the RoughRiders) ... are 21-15 at Security Bank Ballpark and 15-21 on the road ... are 24-24 versus the South Division and 12-12 versus the North.
Kibbles & Bits
STAT of the DAY: If we have learned anything about the 2015 RockHounds, it is that the club rarely goes "gentle into that goodnight."
With nearly 300 Texas League games in the books, there have been only 17 in which the team trailing after seven innings has come back to win. The RockHounds (five) and Corpus Christi (four) have authored more than half of those comebacks.
TOUGH DAY FOR BLUE: The game was delayed for approximately 25 minutes when home plate umpire Derek Eaton became ill after the sixth inning. Sean Allen and (crew chief) Ramon Hernandez worked the remainder of the game as a two-man crew.
- Colin Walsh (1-for-4, two walks, stolen base) extended two streaks ... he has now hit in 10 straight games (12-32, .375) and has reached base safely in 15 in-a-row (20-51, .392). Colin, who has now reached base in 24-of-26 games and 44-of-47, has swiped five bases on the road trip.
- Chad Pinder's game-tying single in the eighth extended his hit streak to 13 games (23-58, .397) and his two RBI give him a team-best 38.
- QUICK NOTES: Chad Oberacker went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, two runs and three RBI ... Wade Kirkland went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and scored three runs ... Wade was 5-for-11 in the Frisco series ... Jaycob Brugman's game-winning home run capped a 3-for-5 day ... Carson Blair went 2-for-3 with two walks and a pair of doubles (both off Matt Harrison) ... the 'Hounds collected nine hits against Harrison in six-plus innings ... Josh Hamilton went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run ... he also struck out in the fourth against Nate Long.
As Yogi Berra said, "... it's déjà vu all over again." The RockHounds finish their road trip where it began - - - San Antonio. The 'Hounds and Missions meet for a second four-game series ... Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2:05.
