CORPUS CHRISTI - Joe Musgrove allowed one run over seven innings and Teoscar Hernandez reached base five times as Corpus Christi beat San Antonio 8-3 Wednesday at Whataburger Field before 4,967.

Musgrove (2-0) permitted seven hits and one walk. He struck out four and 68 of his 97 pitches were strikes.

Hernandez, Tyler White, and Jon Kemmer went deep for Corpus Christi (49-23; 1-1) as the Hooks snapped a three-game losing streak. San Antonio is 32-40 and 1-1.

Hernandez drilled a Bryan Rodriguez fastball into the Hooks bullpen for a 1-0 Corpus Christi first-inning advantage. The round-tripper was his seventh.

The Hooks built and even greater cushion for Musgrove during the second. Danry Vasquez, Roberto Pena, and Hernandez contributed run-scoring singles as the lead went to 4-0.

San Antonio then mounted a bases-loaded threat, but Musgrove induced a 1-2-3 double-play ball off the bat of Jose Rondon to terminate the Missions third.

Corpus Christi continued its assault, White powering a two-run homer after Kemmer's opening single. The visitors countered by breaking through for a run, Casey McElroy's double to right-center preceding a Hunter Renfroe single the opposite direction.

White picked up his third hit of the evening by the fourth, as the margin was extended back to six at 7-1. His single to left plated Hernandez (walk/stolen base). Corpus Christi's hit total through four was 11.

Rodriguez (3-9), who walked and fanned two in a 78-pitch performance, was lifted at that point for Stephen Kohlscheen. Kemmer's ninth homer - a lead-off no-doubter into the right-field bullpen - came off Kohlscheen in the sixth to make it 8-1.

Juan Minaya surrendered a two-run homer to Duanel Jones during San Antonio's last turn at bat.

The Hooks entertain Frisco in a four-game series Thursday through Sunday. Corpus Christi sends southpaw Brian Holmes (1-2) vs. lefty Chad Bell (2-7) in the 7:05 opener.

Stripes presents Thirsty Thursday with discounted beer and soda and 1st Community Bank sponsors the Hooks Great TV Giveaway.
