Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Toronto, Ont. (Sunday, Mar. 11) - The team effort produced by the St. Michael's Majors proved to be successful this afternoon as they knocked off the visiting Sudbury Wolves 4-1. As a result, the Majors record improves to 20-40-3-3 on the year.
There was no scoring in the 1st period as the Wolves outshot the Majors 17-10. Things changed quickly in the middle frame as Kaspars Daugavins' shorthanded goal at 1:26 gave the home squad a 1-0 lead. The lone assist was credited to Mike Pelech.
The pace quickened even more in the 3rd period as Nick Foligno tied up the affair for the Wolves 14 seconds into the frame after receiving an Akim Aliu pass. That didn't deter the Majors as they responded with three more goals to grab the win. The final Toronto goalscorers were Darrell Simich, Matt McCready (power-play) and Daugavins with the assists going to Pelech, Simich, Anthony Tapper, Byron Elliott and Matt Caria.
Chris Carrozzi was great between the pipes for the Majors, turning aside 45 shots to earn the victory. Sebastian Dahm responded with 28 saves for the Wolves. The Majors were 1 for 5 on the power-play while the Wolves were 0 for 6. The game's three stars were Carrozzi (1st), Simich (2nd) and Foligno (3rd).
The Majors complete their season with two more games. They travel to Oshawa for a 7:05 p.m. tilt on Wednesday evening. Then, they return home to host the Belleville Bulls and Fan Appreciation Day next Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
