Weekly Update: Rapids Travel to Philadelphia for Sunday Match

RAPIDS VISIT PHILADELPHIA ON SUNDAY WITH BROADCAST ON NBC SPORTS: The Colorado Rapids will carry momentum from their First Kick victory as they visit Philadelphia Union on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. MT at PPL Park. The match will be broadcast live across the country on NBC Sports, and locally in Denver on Mile High Sports Radio and ESPN Deportes Radio. Colorado will play one more match on the road - a Sunday, March 25 visit to the New York Red Bulls on ESPN - before returning home on April 1 against the Chicago Fire.

RAPIDS RESERVES TRAVEL TO HOUSTON FOR FIRST MATCH: The Colorado Rapids Reserves will travel to Houston to take on the Houston Dynamo in their first match of the 2012 Reserve League Season on Tuesday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m. CT. The Rapids Reserves will be led this season by Wilmer Cabrera, an Assistant Coach to Oscar Pareja, and play a 10 game schedule. CHICAGO FIRE VISIT RAPIDS IN NEXT HOME MATCH ON APRIL 1: The Colorado Rapids' next home match will be on April 1 against the Chicago Fire at 5:00 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in the only meeting between the two sides in 2012. The Fire match will be the fourth straight against Eastern Conference opponents to open the 2012 regular season. The April 1 match is a Coca-Cola Family Night, with 4 tickets, 4 meals, and 4 Coca-Cola products available for just $49. COLORADO RAPIDS OPEN 2012 SEASON WITH WIN OVER COLUMBUS: The Colorado Rapids opened their 2012 season with a 2-0 blanking of the Columbus Crew, with Drew Moor and Quincy Amarikwa getting the goals for the Rapids. Matt Pickens had a pair of excellent saves to earn the shutout, though Colorado dominated possession throughout and outshot the visitors by a 17-5 margin. MASTROENI TO BE EVALUATED FURTHER AFTER INJURY: On Saturday, Colorado Rapids midfielder Pablo Mastroeni came off the field in the second half after taking an elbow to the head from Columbus forward Omar Vargas, and while the captain was not diagnosed with a concussion, he will continue to be evaluated this week. Mastroeni sustained a similar knock during the team's preseason trip to Hawaii, and missed several games at the end of the 2011 season due to a concussion. RAPIDS ACADEMY TEAMS BACK IN ACTION THIS SATURDAY: The Colorado Rapids U-18 and U-16 Academy teams kick off their spring season this Saturday, March 17 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Both teams will face the U-18 and U-16 Classics Elite at 1:00 and 3:30 p.m. respectively. The U-18 squad features Dillon Serna and Shane O'Neill, who spent preseason training with the Rapids first team and will continue to practice with them throughout the spring. SPRING 2012 CENTER OF EXCELLENCE SERIES IN SESSION: The Spring 2012 Center of Excellence training series kicked off last night at the East Boulder Recreational Center location, and will commence tonight at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The six-session camp, created to expose young players ages 8-12 to quality coaching, is designed to make players more aware of the technical requirements of an elite soccer player and to nurture the advancing serious player.
