
Weekly Update: Pickens Sets Rapids Shutout Record

PICKENS CLAIMS RAPIDS' ALL-TIME SHUTOUTS RECORD: With the 2-0 blanking of FC Dallas on Sunday, Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens recorded his 26th career shutout for the Rapids, the most of any goalkeeper in franchise history. He surpassed Joe Cannon, who earned 25 shutouts for the Rapids from 2003-2006. It was the 37th clean sheet of Pickens' eight-year career, which ranks 11th in MLS history. RAPIDS VISIT D.C. UNITED ON MAY 16: After playing three games in nine days, the Colorado Rapids now have 10 days before heading to the nation's capital for their next match against D.C. United on May 16. The match is set for a 5:30 p.m. MT kickoff and will be broadcast live on Altitude, Mile High Sports Radio (93.7 FM, 1510 AM) and ESPN Deportes Radio (87.7). RIVERO SCORES FIRST CAREER MLS GOAL AGAINST FC DALLAS: Rapids midfielder MartÃ-n Rivero scored his first career MLS goal on Sunday in a 2-0 victory over FC Dallas. Rivero received a pass from midfielder Brian Mullan near the penalty spot before turning and placing a left footed shot into the low right corner for his first goal in MLS and for the Rapids. His strike came 13 minutes after Jaime CastrillÃ"n notched his third of the season, also assisted by Mullan. For highlights of the match, click here.
COLORADO HOST EASTERN CONFERENCE LEADERS SPORTING KC MAY 19: The Rapids' next home game will be Saturday, May 19 when they take on the Eastern Conference leading Sporting Kansas City at 7 p.m. MT. Colorado will have a chance for revenge against Sporting, who eliminated the Rapids from the 2011 playoffs in the last meeting between the clubs. FORWARD OMAR CUMMINGS INJURED IN 2-0 VICTORY AT FC DALLAS: Rapids forward Omar Cummings injured his left ankle in the 12th minute of the 2-0 victory at FC Dallas on Sunday, coming out of the game after being attended to by Rapids Head Athletic Trainer Jaime Rojas. He is scheduled to see a doctor on Monday afternoon, and a full update will be available on www.ColoradoRapids.com on Tuesday.
RAPIDS FACE MONTREAL IMPACT ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: The Colorado Rapids take on MLS expansion team Montreal Impact on Saturday, May 26 at 7 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in the first ever meeting between the two teams. WORLD CUP OF WINE AND BEER SET FOR JULY 12: The fifth annual World Cup of Wine and Beer will be hosted by the Colorado Rapids and Kroenke Sports Charities on Thursday, July 12 on the pitch at Dick's Sporting Goods Park (or on the covered concourse in the case of inclement weather). The event, which will be attended by Rapids players and coaches, is one of several fundraising events put on annually by KSC and features food and drinks from Rapids partners and area businesses, gaming tables, a silent auction and more. RAPIDS U-18 AND U-16 TEAMS TO VISIT ST. LOUIS FOR TWO MATCHES EACH: The Under-18 and U-16 Colorado Rapids Academy teams will head to St. Louis for two matches this weekend against St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri and St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro. The U-16s fell 1-0 to local rivals Real Colorado on May 5, while the U-18s (second place in both the Central Conference and Frontier Division) drew 1-1 against the same opponent.
