Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (May 7, 2012)-BBVA Compass Stadium (www.bbvacompassstadium.com ) announces updates to parking and traffic flow information, along with the new location for Orange Avenue, Greenstar Recycling SoccerFest and other pre-game fan activation areas for Houston Dynamo events. In just five days, the Houston Dynamo will face off against D.C. United for the Inaugural Game on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 3:30 p.m.
"We have worked with the City of Houston, surrounding businesses and the Houston Dynamo to create game-day locations in order to offer alternative pre-game activities with the goal of making these event spaces easy to access and offering close proximity to entrance areas for the stadium," stated BBVA Compass Stadium General Manager Doug Hall.
In March, the City of Houston passed an amendment to the ordinance that allows open containers in the downtown area in lots owned, operated or controlled by a sports franchise. The result of the changes to the ordinance allows Houston Dynamo and TSU football fans the opportunity to tailgate in Lots B & C only, the two parking areas that the stadium lease from the Astros. Private parking areas will not be allowed to hold tailgating events.
"We encourage fans to come out early and utilize their regular Minute Maid Park parking locations when they come to events at the stadium," Hall said. "In addition, we have bikecabs working around the area to transport people to and from the building to various parking locations, taxi cab and private car drop-off and pick-up locations as well as bus parking and ADA accessible parking locations."
Parking
The Mazda Activation Area is an exclusive area for Mazda owners, available on event days only. The area, which opens four hours prior to Dynamo game kick off, is located on Bastrop between McKinney and Walker, will allow street parking for the first 30 Mazda cars as well as other activities.
Passenger drop-off and pick-up is located at the corner of Hutchins and Walker, adjacent to the Greenstar Recycling Soccer Fest area on the southwest corner of the stadium.
The taxi stand is located on the Northeast side of the stadium at the corner of Capitol and Dowling.
Bus parking and drop-off is located on the east side of Lot C along Bastrop between Preston and Texas.
Lone Star Bikecab will provide pedi-cab rides for fans and work off gratuities for services. Pedi-cabs are available on game days for pre-game activities as well as following the conclusion of the game.
Street Closures
Street closures in effect for Dynamo game days include one block of Capitol at St. Emanuel on the west side of the stadium, and a two-block stretch of Walker between Hutchins and Dowling.
Pre-Game Fan Zones
Orange Avenue, a pre-game fan zone for patrons ages 21 and up, will be located on a one block area of Rusk at St. Emanuel featuring live music, vendors and more. The family-friendly Greenstar Recycling Soccer Fest area, located just outside the Southwest entrance to the stadium at Walker and Hutchins, will feature sponsor-activated games and activities for fans of all ages.
In addition, fans will not be allowed to bring in balloons, confetti or streamers to the games. For a complete list of rules and regulations along with parking maps and more, visit www.bbvacompassstadium.com .
