
Weekly Update: Chivas USA Visits Houston and Kansas City This Week

RED-AND-WHITE IN HOUSTON FOR OPEN CUP QUARTERFINAL ON TUESDAY NIGHT: Chivas USA is currently in Texas, preparing for a match at the Houston Dynamo on Tuesday night in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal matchup. The Red-and-White earned a 1-0 victory over the Austin Aztex (USSF-2) on Tuesday, June 29 in the round of 16 of the tournament, which is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. Chivas will look on Tuesday for its first ever win at the Dynamo, and will visit Houston again in two weeks for a SuperLiga 2010 match. The Open Cup game will not be broadcast in Southern California, so fans looking for updates should click over to Chivas USA's Twitter account, @cdchivasusa .
CHIVAS USA CONTINUES ROAD SWING ON SATURDAY AGAINST KANSAS CITY WIZARDS: After Tuesday's visit to the Houston Dynamo, Chivas USA will then fly to Kansas City to face the Wizards in MLS Regular Season action on Saturday, July 10. The Red-and-White are coming off a 1-1 tie with the Philadelphia Union last Saturday, a result that snapped the team's six-game losing streak. The meeting between the clubs in KC will be the first of the season, and in Chivas USA's visit to the Wizards last season the result was a 1-1 draw. Saturday night's match will be broadcast on KDOC, KWHY, and W Radio 690 AM, and fans can also track the game on cdchivasusa.com or on the team's Twitter feed, @cdchivasusa .
RED-AND-WHITE OPEN SUPERLIGA 2010 AGAINST PUEBLA F.C. ON JULY 15: Chivas USA will play in SuperLiga for the third consecutive year, starting with a match against Puebla F.C. and Carlos Ruiz on Thursday, July 15, at 7:30 p.m. PT will close first round action against CONCACAF Champions Pachuca, featuring current United States National Team members for the FIFA World Cup Hérculez Gómez and Francisco Torres, on Wednesday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m. PT. BORNSTEIN RETURNS TO ACTION WITH CHIVAS USA AFTER WORLD CUP DUTY: Chivas USA captain Jonathan Bornstein has returned to Chivas USA and played 85 minutes at left midfield in the Red-and-White's 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union. The Los Alamitos native had several chances in the attack, including a header just over the bar in the first half, and also paired with left back Ante Jazic on the defensive end. Bornstein and the United States National Team earned a 1-1-2 record (W-L-T) and fell in the round of 16. Bornstein came into the team for its final group stage match, starting in a dramatic victory over Algeria, and also played well in the team's next match, a 2-1 extra time loss to Ghana. CHIVAS USA U-16 TEAM CONCLUDE DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY PLAYOFF RUN: The Chivas USA U-16 Team enjoyed a great Development Academy season in 2009-10, finishing its year with a 14-8-7 record and making the national playoffs, which took place this past weekend in Greensboro, N.C. After earning a tie with the Dallas Texans in the team's first postseason match, the team then fell by a 2-1 score to Baltimore Bays Chelsea and then lost 2-0 to the Kansas City Wizards. 'CHIVAS AT THE PARK L.A.' CONTINUES SATURDAY, JULY 10 AT GRIFFITH STADIUM IN LOS ANGELES: Chivas USA continues the popular 'Chivas at the Park L.A.' program, and next up into the series of soccer clinics taking place in various parks throughout Los Angeles will be a session on Saturday, July 10 at Griffith Stadium at 3401 Riverside Drive in Los Angeles. The clinics, which offer participating boys and girls ages 5-15 the opportunity to learn soccer techniques and practice drills that highlight teamwork in an environment that promotes the importance of fitness for the entire family, cost just $5 and include 90 minutes of soccer instruction, a Chivas at the Park t-shirt, and a certificate of completion. 'SANGRE NUEVA' TRYOUTS FRIDAY, JULY 9: Chivas USA will hold 'Sangre Nueva' Youth Team tryouts on Friday, July 9 in the San Bernardino Soccer Complex in San Bernardino. Players born between 1992 and 1997 will have a chance to show their skills in front of representatives from both Chivas USA and Chivas de Guadalajara, and there will also be an open tryout for older players.
