
Weekly Preview: Road Trippin' with the Steel this Weekend

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - After sweeping a home-and-home set against the Madison Capitols on Nov. 8-9, the Chicago Steel (10-3-1-0, 21 pts.) will take the journey to Sioux City, Iowa for two contests versus the Musketeers (6-6-0-0, 12 pts.) at Tyson Events Center on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 17.
The Steel defeated Sioux City 3-2 in the season opener at the Dick's Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Penn., on Sep. 28. Gunnarwolfe Fontaine had a pair of goals for the Steel and goaltender Victor Ostman stopped 19 shots in the victory.
Rookie forward Joel Matta tallied two markers in the loss to Chicago and paces the Musketeers with six goal this season. The Helsinki, Finland, native was ranked as a 'C'-level prospect by NHL Central Scouting's rankings released on Nov. 11. Netminder Ethan Haider made 24 saves in the contest against the Steel on Sep. 28. Haider was selected by the Nashville Predators in the fifth round (148th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Last weekend, Chicago enjoyed a big performance from defenseman Uula Ruikka, who earned his first-career Player of the Week honor from the United States Hockey League. The Oulu, Finland, native charted four points (2G, 2A) in the club's two victories last weekend.
Netminders Ian Shane and Ostman both set career-best marks in saves over the two-game set against Madison. Shane turned away 33 pucks on Friday while Ostman made 31 stops Saturday night. Sam Colangelo notched the game-winning goal in Friday's 3-1 victory and added a two-goal, one assist effort in the win on Saturday.
Following the contests in Sioux City, the Steel head back to Wisconsin to face the Madison Capitols on Fri., Nov. 22.
Chicago returns to Fox Valley Ice Arena for "Hockey is for Everyone" on Saturday, Nov. 23 against the Capitols, a night to celebrate all who play the sport.
