Lone Star Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Brahmas opened up their portion of the 2016 schedule with a weekend split in Odessa against the Jackalopes.
FRIDAY: Each team struck once in the opening 20 minutes and for the Jacks, who other than former Brahma Eric Carreras. Later in the frame his former teammate Cody Wickline knotted the game back up at one.
In the second Zach Zech gave Odessa their eighth short-handed goal of the season with helpers from Derek Brown and Dakoda Menslage.
Odessa tacked on another in the third when Matthew Rypien earned his second of the season. Peter Kessel would score one with minutes remaining but it wouldn't be enough, Brahmas falling 3-2.
SATURDAY: The Brahmas came back with a vengeance for round two of the series thrashing the Jacks 6-2.
Odessa once again jumped out to an early lead when less than two minutes in Nate Werhane beat Corbin Kaczperski.
However, the Brahmas bounced back with four unanswered goals from Martin Mellberg, Bud Madej, Johan Lundgren and Peter Bates. Bates' and Madej's goals came on the power play and Mellberg's goal was accompanied with two assists during that stretch as well.
In the third Hogan Davidson and Alex Berardinelli added insurance for the team, eventually finalizing the score at 6-2.
The win was Kaczperski's 12th of the season and fifth in a row.
NEXT: This weekend the roles are reversed as the Jackalopes come to NYTEX Sports Centre for their first trip to North Richland Hills this season.
