
Matiss Kivlenieks Leads Latvia to IIHF World Juniors Div. 1 Group a Championship

Current Coulee Region Chill and NAHL netminder Matiss Kivlenieks was selected as the Best Goaltender of the Tournament as he backstopped his home country of Latvia to the Championship title of the IIHF World Junior Div. I Group A Championship, held in Vienna, Austria. Kivlenieks, a native of Riga, Latvia, led the event with a 1.71 goals against average and a 94.1% save percentage, helping Latvia win and advance to next year's main IIHF World Junior Championships against the likes of the United States, Canada, Sweden, Finland, etc.
Kivlenieks returned home and started in the Chills' two wins this past weekend saving 28/30 shots last Thursday in a 5-2 win against the Austin Bruins and 24/24 shot in Saturday nights shutout against the Janesville Jets.
