Weekend Preview: Caps First Three-In-Three of February

Madison Capitols News Release
Following the split against Tri-City this past weekend, Madison is set to have one of their busiest months on the calendar with eleven games in February. It all starts with a three-in-three in the first month of the season. Three different opponents in three days in three different rinks should lead to an exciting weekend of hockey for the team.
Madison at Waterloo

Waterloo, Iowa
The Capitols are set to face off against the Black Hawks for the second time this season after winning the first matchup 2-1 at the Fall Classic. Max Nagel scored both goals in the first matchup for the Caps while Patriks Berzins stopped 28/29 Waterloo attempts at net on the defensive end. This is the second of three matchups between the two teams with Waterloo traveling to Madison in March.
The return to Waterloo for James Hong and the first game against their former team for Nicholas Fascia and Will Felicio since being traded to Waterloo leads to a storyline filled game. James Hong was acquired by Madison this summer in exchange for Nicholas Fascia and other assets. Hong did play against his former team in September, but at a neutral site, the game did not bring the Ohio State commit back to his old home arena like the one on Friday will.
For Fascia and Felicio, this is their first chance to face off against the Caps since being traded. Fascia was rostered in September for Waterloo but sat out in the game against Madison, one of only two missed games for the defensemen that season. For Felicio, the game comes just under a month after being acquired by his new club. Felicio broke records while wearing Navy and Columbia last season.
Madison at Green Bay

Green Bay, Wisc.
While Green Bay has taken three of the first four games of the Wisconsin Cheese Cup presented by Klondike Cheese this season, there is still plenty of time to turn it around against their lone intrastate rival. With five games against Green Bay remaining this season, Madison will only have to make the trip to the Resch Center once more after this weekend.
The Capitols lone win against Green Bay this season came at the Resch Center on November 18th on the back of an Austin Burnevik hat trick. The most recent matchup between the two squads went the way of Green Bay with a 1-0 victory on January 13th the day after a snowstorm postponed the Friday matchup between the two to early March. The lone goal in that game came on the power play for Green Bay, scored by Ben Poitras.

After a split in their first visit of the season to Madison, the Lumberjacks return to Cap Ice on Sunday afternoon to complete the three game weekend for Madison. The Capitols have a 1-1-1-1 record against Muskegon this season with the 'Jacks taking the two most recent games at the end of November, both in extra time, shootout Friday and overtime Saturday.
Muskegon enters the weekend six points ahead of Madison in third place in the Eastern Conference. They are set to play Chicago on Saturday before making the trip to Cap Ice on Sunday. Their offense ranks third in the league behind only Fargo and Dubuque at a 4.08 goals per game rate. While the Lumberjacks have success on the offensive end of the ice, the defensive end has been a struggle for Muskegon giving up 3.76 goals per game, 13th in the USHL this season.
Although the Capitols still have a chance to take the season series, the team would need to capture victory in their last two games against Muskegon this season. The last matchup against the Lumberjacks comes on March 1st for the Capitols in Muskegon.
Tickets for the Sunday, February 4th, contest can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com. Coverage can be found on the team's social media channels or on FloHockey.
