Frisco Fighters News Release
FRISCO, TexasÃÂ - This Saturday, June 3 at 7:05 p.m. CT, the first place and undefeated Frisco Fighters (5-0) play at home, taking on the Massachusetts Pirates (4-3) for a second time this season.
Playing at Comerica Center for the first time since the Fighters' inaugural home game, the team is ready to play in front of the electric home crown once again. This game will be nationally televised as the Stadium Network's IFL Game of the Week.
"It's just nice to be back home," said Clint Dolezel, head coach of the Fighters. "We've had five games and four of them have been on the road. We're excited to play in front of a good crowd like we did at the home opener, and hopefully we'll put on a good show and not have such a close football game."
Last home game, the Fighters beat the Duke City Gladiators, 58-57, in front of a sold-out crowd. The energy from the home crowd was an integral part of the team's win.
"In the indoor football game, a crowd is a huge advantage," said Dolezel. "Especially a knowledgeable crowd that knows to get loud when the other team gets the ball, they'll start goofing up snap counts and can't hear each other in the huddle. It's a huge advantage."
Massachusetts is coming off a bye week, and with an extra week of game prep, coach Dolezel is ready for a strong offensive plan from the Pirates.
Mass quarterback Alejandro Bennifield is a dual-threat athlete with ten rushing and 17 passing touchdowns on the season. Justin Stockton is a standout on the Pirates' strong running offense with 248 yards and three touchdowns this season. Stockton sat out last matchup due to an injury and is questionable to return this game.
Frisco's solid defensive front is led by defensive endÃÂ Charles Williams, who is currently No. 1 in the league in sacks. Offensively, veteran quarterbackÃÂ Jonathan BaneÃÂ has 15 total touchdowns and 843 yards this season.
Fighters wide receiverÃÂ Marques RodgersÃÂ earned Frisco's Player of the Game and the IFL's Special Teams Player of the Week honors after his first contest with the Fighters last weekend. Rodgers logged four receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran a kick return home for another touchdown, bringing his all-purpose yards to 247.
