Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (14-9) benefitted from a dominating pitching performance by Jackson Weeg (Emory) to take down the Bend Elks (9-14) 1-0 on Tuesday night. The Sweets have now won eight out of their last nine games.
The Sweets and the Elks were dead locked at zero into the eighth inning. The pitching duel was between Weeg and Kris Jackson (Chemeketa CC) of Bend. They both pitched into the eighth.
In the eighth, the Sweets' Nick Vigo (Cal State Monterey Bay) walked to lead-off the inning. He was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, Coby Kauhaahaa (Cal State Fullerton) dropped a drag bunt down the third base line and beat the throw at first for an RBI single.
Justin Bruihl (Cal Poly) then came on and picked up his second save with a perfect ninth inning.
Weeg finished with eight shutout innings, only giving up three hits while striking out 10 without walking a batter. He improved to 4-0 on the year and joined teammate Easton Lucas as the only two 4-0 pitchers in the West Coast League.
The Sweets will take on the Bend Elks tomorrow in game three for a chance at a sweep. Walla Walla will send Chris Murphy (San Diego) to the mound.
