The Corvallis Knights were walk off winners Tuesday at Goss Stadium, defeating the Bellingham Bells 3-2.
The Knights loaded the bases in the bottom half of the 12th with no outs. After Josh Zavisubin forced Kyle Nobach to groundout, Andy Atwood ended the ballgame with an RBI single.
Bellingham got on the board in the first. Andru Cardenas reached on error to lead off the ballgame and moved to second a sacrifice bunt by Shane Hanon. Elijah Skipps drove in Cardenas to give the Bells an early 1-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first.
The Bells loaded the bases the in the second inning. Austin Shenton started a two out rally with a single and moved to second when Matt DiLeo walked. Gunnar Schubert followed with another walk to load the bases. Cardenas earned his RBI, being plunked by a pitch to bring in Shenton. Bellingham led 2-0 heading to the bottom of the second.
Bellingham carried the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the eighth when Corvallis scored two runs to tie the ballgame. The game remained tied until the Knights crossed the game winning run in the 12th.
Tyler Palm earned his third start of the season, and Oakland University product was fantastic, fanning seven batters in six scoreless innings on the bump. Jared Horn fired two and a third innings, allowing two runs while striking out two. Sam Hellinger (1-1) tossed two and two thirds, allowing one unearned run to cross. And Zavisubin, who entered with one runner already aboard, retired one man in the 12th before surrendering the game-winning hit.
The Bells close out a six game road trip against the Corvallis Knights, first pitch scheduled for 6:40 at Goss Stadium, with pre-game coverage starting at 6:15 with Tom Prizeman on https://network1sports.com/station/bellinghambells.
