Kyle Nobach drove in two runs but walks and defensive lapses cost Corvallis in a 3-2 loss to Bellingham on Wednesday in the finale of their West Coast League series.

A rising senior at Oregon State, Nobach hit an RBI single in the third to give the Knights a 1-0 lead, and another RBI single in the seventh to draws the Knights to within 3-2. However, they could get no closer and the Bells (11-11) salvaged Game 3.

He also had an outstanding running catch at the base of the center-field fence to take an extra-base hit away from Elijah Skipps in the ninth inning. Taylor Travess (Mt. Hood CC) then made a diving catch in left field to negate another possible extra-base hit and end the inning.

Corvallis left seven runners on base, five in scoring position. Bellingham pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and every Corvallis starter fanned at least once.

Corvallis miscues led to all three Bellingham runs. The Knights walked seven, hit a batter and made four errors; all three of Bellingham's runs were unearned.

The Knights (15-8 all, 13-8 overall) had their two-game winning streak snapped and fell for just the second time in their last 10 games. Their South Division lead over idle Yakima Valley was trimmed to one game.

Wednesday's crowd of 915 raised the yearly attendance to 15,802 for 11 dates. That is 595 fans behind last year's record total of 49,656 through a corresponding number of openings.

The eight-game homestand continues today with a nonleague doubleheader against the touring Perth Heat junior team, and the Albany Mid-Valley Rockets American Legion team. The Perth game starts at 5 p.m., the second game at 7:30 p.m.

It is COUNTRY Financial Mini-Bat Night; the first 250 kids through the gates get mini-bats compliments of COUNTRY Financial. It is also a $2 Thursday, with special prices on selected adult beverages.

The homestand concludes over the weekend with two more non-league games against two Oregon Collegiate Baseball League opponents. The Knights host the Polk County Growlers at 6:40 p.m. Friday, and then entertain the Willamette Valley Brewers at 7:15 p.m. Saturday in their annual Oregon State Credit Union Fireworks Night game.
