Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, PA - There have been plenty of headline grabbing theme nights at Blair County Ballpark over the last eleven seasons, and the 12th year of play will be no different! Wednesday's in "Curve, Pa." are sure to be belly-busters filled with laughter.
"There may not be a more unique sport than Minor League Baseball in this country," said Altoona Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "Over the years the organization has come up with some real headline grabbers and this year should be as good as any."
Here are the Wednesday promotions in all their wackiness:
LIVIN' LA VIDA LUNCH MEAT - Wednesday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. vs. Akron (AA - Cleveland Indians)
The Curve are amazed that braunschweiger, bologna, and cooked ham are constantly neglected when it comes to the finest cold cuts. We'll also see how well the youth of America really remembers Isaly's or whether chipped or sliced is the way to go. The Curve also plan on contacting the creators of the popular 1990s TV sitcom, Seinfeld to ask if we can display Kramer's meat slicer on this night.
REDUNDANCY NIGHT - Wednesday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. vs. Harrisburg (AA - Washington Nationals)
End result. Unexpected surprise. Pair of twins. Each and every. Past experience. Advance planning. You get the picture. The Curve will try to incorporate as many amusing abuses of the English language by repeating redundancy over and over again. The team will also pay tribute to some of the more redundant things in the history of sports: the Steelers winning Super Bowls, George Steinbrenner hiring and firing Billy Martin, introductory press conferences for NBA coach Larry Brown, and non-championship seasons for Cleveland's professional sports franchises.
CONDIMENT WARS - Wednesday, June 23 at 7:00 p.m. vs. Portland (AA - Boston Red Sox).
The battle between ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, and many other fine toppings will commence at Blair County Ballpark on this night. A declaration of war shall be declared on all the fixings of a hot dog, Curve Burger, chicken sandwich, wing, or any other delicacy. We all have our preferences and often argue with great gusto to defend them. On this night, during this game, we shall draw finality to this great debate.
BAD IDEA NIGHT - Wednesday, July 7 at 7:00 p.m. vs. Binghamton (AA - New York Mets)
From Prohibition to Astroturf; from Boston trading Babe Ruth to New Coke; and from American football in Europe to the opening of Al Capone's vault there have been a number of bad ideas in recent memory. On this night, the Curve will commemorate ideas that were "all bad".
The other Wacky Wednesday promotions are: "Census Night" on April 14, "Bark in the Park" on August 4, "Sponsors in Wonderland" on August 11, and "It's All Greek to Me" on August 25.
The following parts of the Curve promotional calendar will become public later this week:
Tomorrow: All 2010 Altoona Curve entertainment acts
Thursday: 2010 Altoona Curve giveaway items
Fans can get their ticket to every Wednesday home game or any other 2010 contest when individual game tickets go on sale this Friday at the team's second annual, prime-time Baseball Bash at BCB. Festivities begin at 5:30 and last until 8:00 p.m. and will feature live entertainment, food and drink, kids' games and other activities, along with the unveiling of a brand new line of Altoona Curve merchandise.
