Wednesday Night Rivalry: Saginaw vs. Flint

SAGINAW, MI - On Wednesday night, the Saginaw Spirit head south to face their archrival, the Flint Firebirds at the Dort Federal Event Center. Tonight's game is the fourth of eight meetings in the inaugural Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup, awarded to the team that wins the regular season series. Puck Drop is at 7:00.

The Firebirds shocked the Spirit with back-to-back wins against Saginaw to start the season. On October 28th, the Spirit payed the Firebirds back with a 5-3 win at The Dow Event Center in front of over 4,500 Spirit fans. The Spirit were led by a 33-save performance from Evan Cormier and two goals from Matthew Kreis. Marcus Crawford and Will Petschenig pitched in with two helpers each.

Players to Watch:

Saginaw:

Matthew Kreis: The Georgetown, Ontario native has led the way for the Spirit when facing Flint this season. Kreis has three goals and two assists in three games against the Firebirds this season.

Mike Davies: After a slow start with Kitchener, Davies has scored two goals in his last two games after joining the Spirit on November 12th. Davies has three points in his first five games with the Spirit, and hopes to continue that pace to jumpstart a struggling Spirit offense.

Flint:

Vili Saarijarvi: The Detroit Red Wings third round pick in 2015, Saarijarvi is sixth is the entire OHL is Defencemen scoring with 18 points. Saarijarvi leads the Firebirds in scoring against the Spirit this season with five points.

Will Bitten: Bitten is the only member of the Flint Firebirds to be named to the 2016 NHL Central Scouting list. Bitten leads the Firebirds with 32 points on the season and has a goal and two assists in the first three meetings with the Spirit this season.

NHL Central Scouting List:

Four members of the Saginaw Spirit were featured on the latest NHL Central Scouting list. Forward Tye Felhaber, Defensemen Keaton Middleton and Markus Niemelainen, and Goaltender Evan Cormier are all on the radar of NHL scouts and hope to hear their named called in June's 2016 NHL Draft.
