Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
Nick Webber pitched brilliantly through four innings and survived the fifth to help Palm Beach capture a 1-0 rain shortened victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium.
Webber finished the game allowing one hit, three walks and fanning four over his five innings of work.
Jupiter (1-3) starter James Brauer matched Webber pitch for pitch but came away with a no decision, allowing two hits and a walk in six innings.
The Cardinals (3-1) offense scored its only run in the sixth. Mike Ferris hit a one out double in the right centerfield gap and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Chris Patrick entered the game for starting shortstop Tyler Greene and delivered a timely squeeze bunt to score Ferris.
Reliever Matt Scherer (2-0) picked up his second victory in relief, pitching two innings of shutout baseball.
With rain threatening, Jupiter rallied in the top of the eighth, loading the bases with one out against Cardinal reliever, Dennis Dove. Rain shortened the game before Hammerheads designated hitter Bradley McCann stepped to the plate.
Palm Beach will play its next six games on the road before returning back home to face off against the Brevard County Manatees.
