Ocean State Waves News Release

WAKEFIELD, R.I. "" Ocean State put together its best offensive night of the season as it scored 15 runs and collected 14 hits on its way to a 15-5 victory over Laconia on Saturday night at Old Mountain Field.

The victory is the third-straight for the Waves (6-6) and gives them their first winning-streak in franchise history. The Muskrats (7-3) were coming off a 16-inning victory over Plymouth on Friday night.

After collecting 16 hits the night before against Sanford, the Waves offense erupted again on Saturday, scoring six runs in the third inning. Ryan Sweenor started the inning with a walk and Christian Muscarello and Reed Gamache each collected infield singles to the load the bases with one out. Mike Gerber followed with a two-run double down the right field line to get the Waves on the board. Shaun McGraw followed with an RBI single to center and Caden Bailey made it 4-0 with a sac fly to right. Sebastian capped the scoring with a towering two-run home run to left, his second of the summer.

Laconia wasted no time responding as the first four batters all reached and scored as part of a five-run fourth inning. Jake Peevyhouse started the inning with a double and a hit by pitch and a walk loaded the bases. Ryan McBroom followed with a two-run double to left and Taylor Drake drove in a run with an RBI ground out to make it 6-3. Elijah Sutherland's RBI single pushed across a fourth run and the Muskrats capped their scoring with a well-played double-steal that scored Sutherland as Joe Torres was tagged out in a rundown.

That was as close as the Muskrats would get however, as the Waves scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and put the game away with eight runs in the eighth. Leading 7-5 in the eighth, King walked, Walker Moses singled and Ocello walked to load the bases with no outs. Jacob Moody was nearly out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts but a wild pitch scored one run and Gerber sliced a two-run single inside the left field line to make it 10-5. Bailey followed with an RBI single of his own, Sebastian drove in two with a single to left and King capped the scoring with a two-run home run to dead center, his second of the year.

Ocean State's bullpen was dominant once again as Nick Cooney, Tom Bammann and Austin Hill combined to allow three hits over five scoreless innings of relief. Entering with one out and a runner on third in the fifth, Bammann got a pop out and a strikeout to end the threat and went on to toss 3.2 scoreless innings to earn his first win of the summer. He finished his night by retiring the final seven batters he faced. Hill closed the door with a scoreless ninth.

Offensively, Muscarello, Gerber, Bailey, Sebastian and King all collected two hits. Sebastian and Gerber both drove in four runs and Gerber, McGraw, Sebastian, King and Ocello all scored two runs.

The Waves return to Old Mountain Field on Sunday when they host Newport. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
