New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
Tonight was Youth Fitness Night at Paul Walsh Field. Subway, Hawthorne Medical Center, and Revolution Fitness sponsored the event. Fans were lucky enough to receive free massages from students in the BCC Therapeutic Message Program. The starting pitchers for tonight's contest were Krauss for the Mainers (Seton Hall Univ.) and Frank Velacha for the Bay Sox (Univ. of New Haven).
The 1st hit of the game came in the top of the 1st on a double by Papio. The 1st run of the game didn't occur till the bottom of the 2nd off an RBI single from Plourde. Their 1 run lead was brought to a close in the top of the 3rd with 3 runs scored by Sanford. Their run was brought to a close with a pop up caught by Anderson in left field for the 3rd out.
The Bay Sox answered back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd scored by Pierce and Plourde (4-3). The Bay Sox trailed the Mainers by 1 going into the 4th inning. The 4th inning brought hits but no outs for both teams.
The next run came in the bottom of the 5th; the Bay Sox tied it up (4-4) off a single by Shaw. The top of the 6th included a controversial call, which was originally thought to be a home run but it was discovered to be a ground roll double. The Mainers weren't able to score a run and after a pitching change in the bottom of the 6th to Fortuna, the Bay Sox weren't able to score either.
The score remained tied through the 7th inning. The Mainers and the Bay Sox both made a pitching change in the 7th and 8th innings. It looked like the Bay Sox were going to end the tie after a double by Seiders but the score remained at 4-4 entering the 9th.
The game was forced into extra innings after a scoreless 9th from both sides. The Mainers put runners on 2nd and 3rd before a strike out by Lacosse ended the half inning. The Bay Sox managed to get the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th with 1 out but a double play would end the inning.
Bay Sox make a pitching change in the top of the 11th, putting in O'Rourke. The Mainers broke the tie with a forced run after a walk with the bases loaded. The Bay Sox then made a pitching change, putting in Weber.
The Mainers added 2 runs in the top of the 11th (6-4). They made a pitching change in the bottom of 11 to Remillard. The Bay Sox couldn't answer back and the final score of the game was 6-4. The Bay Sox record is now 3-8 and the Mainers are 6-5.
The Bay Sox's next home game is Sunday June 23rd against Danbury at 6:30 at Paul Walsh Field.
