Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (January 23, 2005) - The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Milwaukee Wave forward, Greg Howes, has been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week. Howes wins the award for the second time this season; he was also the winner after the season's first week (November 7).
Howes, now in his sixth season, had four goals, three assists and two blocks in victories over the Philadelphia KiXX on Friday and Saturday. The wins gave the Wave sole possession of first place. In Friday night's 10-5 victory, he assisted on the first score of the game and later recorded a hat-trick (including the game-winner) in a four minute span at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter. His scores propelled Milwaukee to the win as the score was 4-4 before his three goals. The next night, in a 7-4 victory over the KiXX, Howes contributed a goal and an assist to the Wave's offense. His assist came on Kyt Selaidopoulos' game-winning, fourth quarter goal.
The league's two-time, defending MVP, Howes is having another banner season. With seven points over the weekend, he became this season's first 30-point scorer (17 goals and 13 assists) and claimed first place in the MISL's points race. The Tacoma, Washington, native has averaged 2.3 points per contest this season, better than last year's average as league MVP. He has also recorded at least one point in 12 of his 13 games and has 10 multiple-point games.
The MISL also named their Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. Drew Kopp of the Philadelphia KiXX won the award on defense as he scored four goals in two games. The Goalkeeper of the Week honors went to Sagu after he earned two victories over the Chicago Storm.
The Wave heads to California for their first ever game on the Cougars' turf. Kickoff is at 9:30 p.m. (CST) on Friday. The next home game for Milwaukee will be on Sunday, January 29, against the Baltimore Blast. The fourth meeting of the season between the rivals is set for a 1:05 p.m. kickoff. All Wave games are broadcast on The Joy, 1340 AM and can be heard via webcast at www.MilwaukeeWave.com.
