St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers (10-3) will try to increase their lead over the third place Baltimore Blast (8-4) Tuesday night at Savvis Center at 7:35 pm. The Steamers currently have a 1.5 game lead over Baltimore and are just .5 games behind the first place Milwaukee Wave.
The Steamers enter Tuesday's game on a high after overcoming a three-goal deficit against the California Cougars to win their tenth game of the season 7-5 on Saturday night. It was also the Steamers' ninth win in their last ten games. St. Louis tied the game 4-4 at the end of the third quarter thanks to a momentum-changing goal by Sandre "Sunny" Naumoski. The Steamers controlled the fourth quarter and came out with a big win. The Blast also comes into Tuesday's game victorious after winning 5-4 against the Chicago Storm on Sunday night. Ibrahim Kante scored the winning goal with 36 seconds left in the game.
In head-to-head competition so far this season, both the Steamers and the Blast have won one game. However, the last time these two teams met, the Steamers won 7-2 on December 16 at Savvis. The Steamers scored first with a goal by midfielder Sterling Wescott, and would never trail. The Blast got on the board before the half with a second quarter goal by Denison Cabral. Baltimore would score first in the second half, on a third quarter goal by Joey Bailey, but the Steamers would add three insurance goals before the end of the game. A win on Tuesday would mean that the Steamers would be tied for first place with the Milwaukee Wave, who doesn't play until Saturday.
The Steamers will play two games this weekend, playing in Baltimore on Saturday night. The last time the Steamers visited 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, it was their first game of the season. They suffered a 12-5 loss. It's still the worst defeat of the season for St. Louis. The Steamers will also host the expansion California Cougars on Sunday at 8:05 pm at Savvis Center.
